What We Do
=============================================================================
NanoMEMS Research, LLC engages in RF MEMS and Nanotechnology research, consulting, and education. Our research is aimed at discovering, conceiving, and developing the novel paradigms that will enable the "new electronics" of the future, rooted in RF MEMS and Nanotechnology (NanoMEMS).

I. Research Activities
Our Intellectual Property (IP) under current R&D activities includes BREAKTHROUGHS in the following areas:

1. RF MEMS Devices and Circuits
:
  • Switches, Variometers (variable inductors)
  • Phase Shifters
  • Casimir effect-based Resonators
  • Analysis and Simulation
2. Photonic Bandgap Crystal Devices (at Acoustic, Microwave and Optical length scales):
  • Quantum Information Processing
  • Light Processing
3. Nanoelectromechanical Quantum Circuits and Systems:
  • Analog-to-Digital Converters , Oscillators, Amplifiers, ...
  • Analysis and Simulation
  • Carbon Nanotube Electronics

Our research results define the hardware that will be at the core of the computers and wireless communications appliances of the future. We pursue our research independently and/or in partnership with a select group of Universities, Institutes, and high technology companies throughout the world.

II. Consulting Activities
Our consulting services are offered to high technology industry either currently engaged or planning to engage in RF MEMS and RFIC/Wireless R&D, and cover a wide variety of activities, including, but not limited to:

1. Semiconductor /RFIC device modeling

2. RF/Microwave circuits analysis and design

3. RF MEMS device and circuit design

4. Providing technical assistance to entities developing R&D proposals or reports

5.
Providing Technical Assessment of Business Plans and Opportunities on Behalf of Entrepreneurs and
Venture Capital firms, and Due Diligence
.

Tools: Ansoft's HFSS, Agilent's ADS, AWR's Microwave Office, PSPICE, MATHCAD, MATLAB, and various MEMS CAD tools, ...

III. Education Activities
Our educational services take the form of Continuing Education Courses on-site at customer's facilities, online via the Internet, or through major professional companies offering training/continuing education programs to the public. Our target audience includes executives and managers at VC firms and high-tech companies, practicing engineers, and advanced university students. Our schedule of courses is found HERE.

Dr. Héctor J. De Los Santos , President & CTO
Prior to founding NanoMEMS in October 2002, Dr. De Los Santos spent two years as Principal Scientist at Coventor, Inc., Irvine, CA, where he led Coventor’s RF MEMS intellectual property R&D effort, with activities including the conception, modeling, and design of novel RF MEMS devices and circuits. He received a Ph.D. from the School of Electrical Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, in 1989. From March 1989 to September 2000, he was employed at Hughes Space and Communications Company, Los Angeles, CA, where he served as Scientist and Principal Investigator and Director of the Future Enabling Technologies IR&D Program. Under this program he pursued research in the areas of RF MEMS, Quantum Functional Devices and Circuits, and Photonic Bandgap Devices and Circuits. Dr. De Los Santos holds eighteen US and European patents, and is author of the bestseller textbooks Introduction to Microelectromechanical (MEM) Microwave Systems , Norwood, MA: Artech House, 1999, and RF MEMS Circuit Design for Wireless Communications , Norwood, MA: Artech House, June 2002. Dr. De Los Santos’ achievements are recognized in Marquis’ Who’sWho in Science and Engineering , Millennium Edition, and Who’sWho in the World , 18th Edition. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu, and Sigma Xi. He was an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer of the Microwave Theory and Techniques Society for the 2001-2003 term. He is an IEEE Fellow.
